The US is in the midst of a crisis: the epidemic
of opioid addiction and overdose. Understanding and
addressing chronic pain before it is treated pharmacologically may be an
important first step in addressing opioid misuse. Therapist interventions are an essential
component of the multidisciplinary undertaking that will be required to improve
patient outcomes and alter the trajectory of this public health crisis. This
course will address
the scope of opioid misuse as well as the steps therapy practitioners can
take to identify and address addiction and pain. Educational level: Intermediate.
