Research has confirmed that diaphragm muscle weakness is a likely consequence of prolonged mechanical ventilation. While ventilator-weaning is complex, and diaphragmatic muscle weakness is only one resulting factor, this weakness is modifiable and can respond to targeted training. This webinar will review the functional anatomy/physiology of the diaphragm and impact of mechanical ventilation on respiratory performance. It will also introduce strategies for assessing and implementing treatment interventions designed for clients with compromised diaphragm function. Finally, this course will review documentation principles to ensure efficacy in this area by healthcare providers.
